UK travellers unaware of Cyprus and Malta switchover to Euro

A recent survey by Travelex revealed that nearly 75 per cent of British travellers are unaware that Cyprus and Malta are due to adopt the Euro on January 1, 2008. Britons are the major visitors to both countries (57% of travellers to Cyprus and 38% to Malta), and the upcoming currency change will affect hundreds of thousands of UK tourists. Travel specialists are urging anyone who has recently returned from these destinations and has any leftover local currency to use up or exchange their money before it becomes redundant.

Currently, all prices in the two Mediterranean island nations are stated both in local currency and euros to ensure a smooth switch to the European currency next year.
